I HAVE A GRAND PRIX 2000MY WITH DAMAGED CABLES ON THE REEL ATTACHED TO THE MOTOR'S BACK AND CABLED TO THE REGULATOR, ON THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE. I HAVE REMOVED THE MOTOR AND THE CABLE REEL AND CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. MOTOR IS ELECTRICALLY FUNCTIONAL. I HAVE NOT GOT INTO THE REAR RIGHT WINDOW YET, BUT IT IS ALSO NOT WORKING, WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS DISPLAYED BY THE FRONT RIGHT. AFTER I CONFIRM THAT THERE ARE NO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, MY INTENTION IS TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE REGULATOR / MOTOR ASSEMBLY TO BOTH WINDOWS, NOW THAT I HAVE FOUND NEW REPLACEMENTS ON-LINE AS ASSEMBLIES FOR A VERY REASONABLE PRICE OF ABOUT $60. PER ASSEMBLY. MY QUESTION IS:"HOW DOES ONE REMOVE AND RE-INSTALL THESE DEVICES WITHOUT HACKING A HUGH HOLE IN THE DOORS STRUCTURE OR WITHOUT HIRING THE SERVICES OF A WIZARD / MIDGET TO DO THE WORK?" HOW CAN YOU MAKE ALL CONNECTIONS FOR MOUNTING THE MOTOR AND REGULATOR TO THE DOOR AND THE WINDOW GLASS. I HAVE WATCHED A SHORT VIDEO ON THE SUBJECT, BUT THEY USED A DIFFERENT CAR ( IMPALLA I THINK) AND IT HAD VERY LARGE ACCESS HOLES IN THE DOOR. GRAND PRIX 2000'S DO NOT!

Hi DennisA,

I just recently changed out Regulator Assemblies in my daughter's 2001 Grand Prix and I can assure you that it is much easier than it appears.

The ones I changed out were the left rear and the front passenger. The left rear was the first and the job went smoothly. The front passenger was the same except the motor for the replacement Regulator Assembly was wired with the wires reversed so the window operated down when the switch was pushed to the up position. Easy fix..I just clipped the wires and spliced them together correctly.

Have you already done this job? If so, I'll stop now.
If you haven't, I can give you more info for doing the job. Also, I have a regulator assy for the passenger side (the vendor sent a replacement and don't want it back) that I can send to you.

Let me know.
