Are there any common problems with this drive train, that causes a front end shake while accelerating? I have replaced the sway-bar, struts, and strut-mounts, and had alignment done recently. These things needed done thought it may rectify the shimmy but did not.

Could have a broken belt in one of the front tires, or maybe a simple balancing could take care of it.

CV axle(s). On my 2000 GT smooth coasting was acquired after good matching tires and rims on front and different but good matching rear tires and rims were mount, balanced, and installed. Acceleration only wobble disappeared after installation of (I used new) CV axles. A side note my braking also smoothed out and my ABS light went off when I spliced my ABS sensor wire back together. I know this post was 2009 but in my opinion these are still good cars. I hope this helps someone!

When do you feel the shake? Are the tires properly balanced? Could you have a bent rim? Have all front end components been checked? Has anyone checked for a bad tire (broken belt)? Also, do you feel the shake more in the floor and seat or more so in the steering wheel?

That is either a bent rim, worn hub or CV joint.

Check them in that order.

I jacked up my front end, and when I shake the tire up and down there is about a quarter inch of play. The lug nuts are tight, and there is not any play when I shake the tire left to right. I was wondering what part I will need to buy to fix this problem.

Have someone push/pull tire while you look at suspension.

Watch outer tie rod, control arm bushings, ball joint and wheel bearing for any movement.
