You must disconnect battery when installing TPS.

The ECM stores a value (TPS voltage at closed throttle) and when installing new one, this value nust be cleared so ECM can "relearn" new value. Disconnecting battery will erase old value.

I would disconnect 2-3 minutes to reset the value.

TPS sends voltage to ECM .3 to 5.0v. The closed throttle voltage value must be reset since you can never install a new TPS in the same EXACT position, reading the same EXACT voltage as old one, (unless you are very good or lucky :) )
