I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT V6 with 140,000 miles. When i went to start it one day it would turn over, but then automatically die. When i spoke with someone they said it was common for the fuel pumps to go out, especially with soo many miles on it, so i changed out the fuel filter and pump. The issue was still unresolved. I took it to my mechanic and he said the PCM was bypassing my fuel relay switch and that's why it would start but then die. He instructed me that there was nothing he could do and i needed to take it to a dealer to get the computer reprogrammed or replaced. I really don't have the money to do this. Any suggestions? Is there any way for me to get the PCM from another car and replace it myself? Is that advisable?

This is the starting point,When it dies immediately check for spark while cranking it over. Got spark now check fuel, got correct fuel pressure next is to check valve and ignition timing.
