I own a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am. It has 70000+ miles on it, it's an automatic. Its the 4 cylinder model. It really hasn't had many problems besides muffler problems. The muffler has fallen off countless times, and it seemed that finally one of the muffler shops did a good job. It seems to be holding up. They replaced the muffler up to the catalytic converter. Well around 2 weeks later, and after goin over a very deep pot hole, it sounded like i lost the muffler again. This time, i noticed the muffler is still attached. I recently went under and was checking for the leak. The connection from the muffler to the catalytic converter seems to be fine and leak seems to be coming up near the engine. I checked the gasket and noticed that out of the 4 bolts holding it in, only 3 where there. I replaced the bolt (after a long struggle), and tightened all the bolts. I figured that might be it. I think it might have helped a little, but it still seems pretty loud. Any idea where the leak might be coming from and what i can do?
