I just have a general question. today I helped a little old lady jump her car. Well I didnt notice her putting the cables on her battery and she put black on red and so forth. The cables started smoking and fried the cables. I had turned on my car but she had not turned on hers yet. My car runs fine but is there anything that I should be looking for to make sure that it didnt mess up my car?

Hello

You could go to Auto Zone or O’Reilly’s and for free they can pull the codes to the car. While there for free also they can bring their tester out and check your battery, alternator and starter.

Most likely the cables were not of high quality. Cables normally get hot and if not strong ones will smoke. Make sure when jumping, the good car has the positive and negative hooked to the battery. The bad car has the positive hooked to the battery and the negative hooked to metal on the engine.
