Both the AC and electric windows are inoperable on my 2004 Grand Am. What could be causing this? Burnt fuse?

Yes, both stopped working at the same time. I checked all the fuses and they are good. It is my understanding this could be tied into the ignition system. Anymore thoughts?

They could be tied into the ignition, but I would think that other things would have stopped too.

Have you checked for fuses inder the hood in the power distribution box?

When they don't work, remove the door panel and check for power to the switch and the motor. Let me know what you find.

I need to change the sash clip on my driver side window and was just wondering how easy it would be to do myself. Is it pretty hard and or complicated or pretty quick and easy?

Once you get the door panel off to gain access it isnt that hard to do, trick is not to hurt the window when removing theold one, they are glued to the window. If you are patient and slowly work a razor blade between the two you can ge tit off there, then use some silicone and glue new one in place and roll window up for a day to let it dry in place

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

Remove your door panel and locate the track/feet component the window came out of. Then, using urethane glue/sealant for auto glass, reaffix the window into the track/feet after thoroughly cleaning all parts of old adhesive. Be sure to carefully operate the window to check position before the adhesive sets. After installation is complete, leave the window closed and don't operate it for several days until sealant has set thoroughly. If you are not fairly confident of your ability to position the glass correctly in the track/feet, you may want to consider taking it to a professional glass repair shop.

Hope this helps..

About a month ago, I started my car, and none of the lights turned on, radio did not turn on and windows did not go up or down. The headlights do turn on manually, but nor the spedometor nor the gas gage works. So I messed around with it a little, if I turn on the car and then turn the key slightly everything turns on and windows work. but today it's just not working. On the other hand, the car is running fine. I would like to know if its just an electrical short? Is it fixed easily?

THANKS SO MUCH

The problem is fixed now, but I have never felt comfortable with the price I paid. My driver side power window "worked," but the left side of my window would collapse as the window came down. My brother took the door off to find that the left sash was broken. I think that's what the part is called, at least by the parts store, to describe the plastic pieces that keep the window in place. My brother fixed it, and it worked another 6 months before breaking again. I took it to a repair shop and told them this whole story. They ended up replacing the moter, regulator, and clips, which cost me about $200. I asked them to explain to me, before and after, why all this was needed; and their answers were smooth and confident but never satisfying to me. What do you think? Did I get ripped off? Any information would be very helpful. Thank you.

No, I don't thing so. Your repair didn't hold. That means there were other issues in there that were never found or addressed. That would explain the entire regulator being replaced. As for the motor, many "quality" regulators are only sold as a complete unit with a motor included so that may have been automatic or maybe they saw something weak in the motor. Remember, they don't repair things on the idea "I think it will work", they have to be thorough enough to know it's not coming back on them.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

The driver side window has stopped working all of a sudden. No sign of previous binding and the operation has been very smooth.

I opened the window just fine and now it wont close

All other windows work so i know its isolated to the driver window. When holding the switch either in up or down positiion I hear a click after a few seconds indicating to me that the motor breaker is tripping and after a few seconds it does reset.

I want to know if I should be looking at the regulator for the window or the motor itself. Or could it just be stuck and if so, what is the best method to figure that out

Thanks

My power windows just stopped working. I was looking for a fuse for the windows, only found a circuit breaker (in fuse box on passenger side) no fuses. Do I need to replace the circuit breaker - is there a fuse?
Other question my signal lights work on and off - just all of a sudden will be dead and then work teh next time....fuse?? Where would this fuse be? Why would this happen - any suggestions???

There is no fuse for the window motors. They are on that curcuit breaker you talked about. I would remove the door panel and check for power and ground at the window motor with a test light while you operate the switch. if you have power and ground the motor is faulty. The window regulator will have to come out to replace the window motor and they are rivited in and can be a real pain in the butt. They also have a spring on them that will have to delt with because you could loose a finger if not careful....

As for the turnsignal deal ya got going on it could be a flasher or the turnsignal switch assembly. It ay be worth just puting a flasher in it becuse the turnsignal switch will probably be exspensive....

I have a 2000 pontiac grand am with 112,000 miles. It runs very good, been well kept, but today two problems occured. One...the driver's side power window stopped working. All other windows work fine...I checked fuses on dash and under hood, but no particular one referred to power windows. Two...The change engine oil light came on the previous oil change right after I changed the oil. I just changed the oil again, the light stays on. Does anyone have an answer for these two issues I'm having with this car?

after you change your oil, you need to reset the change oil light after changing the oil. The instructions are in the owner's manual. In the index, look up "engine oil life system". If you have the same manual as me, directions are on page 6-17. With your ignition key to ON (engine not running), push the RESET button located in the driver's side fuse block. The CHANGE OIL light will start to flash, press and hold the RESET button again. The reset is complete when you hear the chimes and the CHANGE OIL light goes out.

the door panel has to be takenoff. being a mechanic it's not that hard to do. you have to unbolt teh window from the regulator and rebolt everything in. there are plastic clips on the door panel that may break but most of the time they don't and it can be done fairly easily.

I have attached a couple of things for you. The clips shouldn’t be that bad to change. I have attached a pic of them and the regulator. Also, a video on how to change. I would first take apart to see what you need as you can drive with the door panel off. That way you are sure of the problem. Also, I would purchase a couple of door panel Christmas trees as most of the time they brake when you are taking the door panel off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFJS6qBaQx8
