I just recently had to replace the 2 rear tires of my car and the technician said i need to change the rear struts. My question is what are the materials/tools i will need to do so and when i buy the replacement parts what all do i need? Do i need to change the springs too or just the struts? My last question is how do i do the process. Thank you very much for your help.

Actually, the only special tool you need is a spring compressor. However, if you have never done it before, you may want to have it done. It can be dangerous because the coil spring needs to be compressed. I've seen then shoot across a shop because a tool broke or was not properly used. As far as replacing the springs, it the vehicle height is normal, I'm sure the coils are fine.

I have to ask, what did the tires look like that were removed. I only ask to be sure if the struts actually need replaced. Try this. Bounce the rear of the car. If it stops bouncing within 3 bounces, the struts are fine.

Let me know.
