2002 Pontiac Grand Am fuel pump

My grand am just went kaput on me took it to a shop and they said it needs a new fuel pump but it would be pricy and they would have to get back to me on the cost to replace it because it would not be just the fuel pump but everything is intertwined in it so really you can not replace just the pump but the whole nine yard.. I did some research cause i also own a truck that i just droped the gas tank replace the pump in it and also the one on the rail and did not understand why it could not just replace pump when they sell just the pump for that car

IS IT TRUE THAT EVERYTHING NEEDS REPLACED AND NOT JUST THE PUMP OR ARE THEY LYING TO ME TO TAKE MY MONEY

If you can do what you did with the truck go for it its not complicated. Buy the fuel pump and go do it
