Hey Brandon,

I have seen various sources on this that range from a bad body control module, a bad driver's door switch and wiring problems. I don't have a magic bullet for it.

All cars have their problems, not just pontiac, I share your dissappointment in the qulity of manufacturing and engineering.

thanks Paul for the reply, I really have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Wonder if having it hooked to a computer would fix the problem, or maybe even resetting the computer?

If you are not strong on the elctrical side, you'll need to have it tested. It isn't a computer (pcm) problem or a matter of clearing codes. You can try disconnecting the driver's door switch and see if it stops. If so, then replace the switch.

Thanks for replying to my post. Where do i disconnect the driver's door switch at? I took the door lock fuse out so she could atleast keep her doors locked and just unlock them manually. My mechanic back home told me the same thing you said that its more then likely the "body control module". Can I get a used one from a salvage yard because i have found a few with 30 day warranties. and do you know if its hard to install on a scale 1-10 and 10 being extremely hard how would you rate it if you have done this before? Thnaks for your help.

I don't don't that you can "plug and play" a used BCM, never tried it. A junk yard may be able to provide you with that info. When we replace them, they need to be programmed to the car and the the passlock anti-theft also need to be programmed. Both of these procedures require a scanner to do this. The door lock switch is in the accessory panel, you can remove it then disconnect it. Check the BCM connector make sure it's tight and clean with no corrosion on it. How easy is it? Depends on the person, it's relative. I'll tell you this much, "You are smarter than you think you are".

Hey Paul, I have another question about my Grand Am. I was driving it and I keep hearing this clicking noise. I think its my door lock or door unlock RELAY. Is there any way to check those to see if there bad or not? And could that possibly be whats wrong with my doors, why they keep unlocking themselves instead of the Body Control Module being bad? My father-in-law seems to think so but just wanted to ask you to see if you might know. Thanks for the help.

I check them by swapping them with another one of the same. After looking at the diagram, I can see why the switch isn't the problem as the switch contols the ground of the circuit. Somthing is causing a ground to happen, chaffed wire possibly, relay?

So do you think it could possibly be the relay thats making my doors unlock themselves? I cant really see the diagram its kind of small on my screen for some reason. thanks

Sorry, I meant to send it to you, I'll do it tonight. I was a little preoccupied. I am more inclined to think that a wire has rubbed against a grounding point and it when it moves a little it grounds the circuit activating it. I would try to swap the relays for the heck of it becasue its quick and easy. IF no luck I would try wiggling the harnesses of that circuit.
