Electrical problem
2001 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My question today, how do I go about taking apart the solenoid? I wish to inspect it further for wear and tear. I had the starter checked out at Advance and they said it was pretty weak, which leads me to suspect the solenoid isn't doing what it should be. Before I just go grab a new one, I'd like to check out the one I have. Thanks.

hi, use your own initiative. Play with it, take it apart. Any screws or nuts, remove them. If that isn't enough, if you see any brads, drill them out. Just a little warning, any drilling, it may not go back together. In my younger years, I was always taking things apart. Sometimes, I wish I hadn't, but, a good way to learn.

You could do a voltage drop test, but, have fun.
