2000 Pontiac Grand Am Ignition switch

Well it seems like it shouldn't be that hard. It say's to unbolt and unplug. Now there are locking tabs on the switch that need to be either depressed or lifted with a pic or small screwdriver. Here is a pic of the switch where it plugs in. If yours is different then please include a pic.

That's the right one, but it's not those two leads (wires). It's the other 2. ESPECIALLY the one on the back.

Ok can you send me a pic of what you are up against? If so great just include it in you next response. I have found many pics of the switch but none from the other side. I will look at work today and see if I have one in stock.

Figured it out.
The ignition had to be in the run position.
It was the shift lock that wouldn't come out.
The switch corrected the starting problem.
Now if I could get the "Security" light to go out, I'd be a happy man. If you can help with that, I'd be happy to make another donation.

Great glad to hear you got it figured out and working. Now on the security system here is what I found. This say's it is a relearn procedure for the anti theft system. What you do is turn the key on engine off, now you momentarily turn it to the start position and release it back to the on position without actually starting the car. Observe the security indicator for about 10 minutes. Security light should go out after about 10 minutes. Then when it does turn key off and then start the car see if light comes back on. Let me know how it goes. Did you replace the key too?

The car is fixed but the LIGHT REMAINS ON. I tried your '10 minute' ordeal three times.

Ok if you would have it scanned. Call around and see if one of your local parts stores will do a free scan. Have it scanned and lets see if any of the codes point to the security system.
