I have 1999 Pontiac Grand AM SE 2.4 L car with 85000 miles on it. recently when I tried to get my car out of parking the engine went dead. Initially i though about a battery problem and tried jump starting. It did not work. then I realise something was wrong with the engine. I towed it to a mechanic and he said timing chain was broke and the car is unrepairable. it was shocking to know that.
but it is hard to believe it is unrepairable.
I want to know if anybody had similar problem and how you solved it. Is there a way I can get used engine? How much would it cost me? (at least and at most?)

well...
Hard to say. If the timing chain broke, it could do some damage internally to the motor while it was running. What exactly did the mechanic say happened to the motor when it broke? Was he making an offer to buy the car after he told you this?

I had a timing chain replaced on my 99 grand am while getting other repairs made and it saved me from a potential problem or two. Make certain that if he says it is unrepairable that you know exactly what damage was caused by the break.

Secind opinions never hurt.
