Hey i have a 1999 pontiac grand am gt with 145,000 miles and a H.O 3400 sfi ram air engine.. after racing a buddy of mine and pulling in to get gas i started to hear a slight ticking/ knocking noise from the engine.. the car still drove fine but made an annoying knock.. over time about 3 days later i stoped at a stop sign just getting off the highway and heard a bad clank noise and the tick/ knock got way worse and so did the performance.. the car barely moves and misfires or runs slugish. oil was found to be low tht next day. I assumed a rocker came loose so i took off the valve cover and checked but each one was fine. the noise seems to be coming from the top of the valve cover and is quite loud now and gets louder with harder accelration and higher rpms. oil level is stable and no leaks. car starts right up everyday and nothing burning out the exaust. it is a dual over head cam engine. could this be a spun rod bearing or mabey a cam shaft bearing? some friends said valve tap or valve stem weas bad? but no oil is burning. any suggestions??
