Computer problem
1997 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have gone thru emmisons 5 times and everytime I fail do to there computer stating that my computer reads "not ready" which I was told means i need to drive it around and get drive time on the computer. Well I did that and added over 200 miles of drive time and I went back and it failed again for same reason. I am wondering if the OBDII needs replaced or also i have a switch that came with that car its located on the inside dash and when i flip it you hear the idle adjust, so i'm also wondering if when they put that swtich in if they bypassed the computer and thats why it does not show drive time?

I would suspect that an after market adjustment to the system is causing your issue
if you have an OBDII reader ,need to hook it up and check what is ready and what monitor is not ready
take the car for a long drive and check if any of the monitor become ready and if so shut engine off wait and start and recheck the system does it still say its ready or all reset to not ready
and if so check if PCM keep alive power
and or PCM at fault
