Hi,

I have a 1997 Grand Am GT. It has 471,000 kilometers on it. While I was recently getting an oil change, it was recommended to me that I get my transmission fluid flushed. It does look burnt, and I am aware of this. The reason I haven't gotten it done is because I was told that changing the transmission fluid on a vehicle with high mileage could be problematic, and the transmission could begin to slip. I have no problems with the transmission, or anything in the car for that matter. Original engine and transmission. Any feedback/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi there,

There is no reason why you should not service the transmission, just a filter & oil change will be fine, if the oil is not overly discolored and you have not reliability issues get the service done.
