1996 Pontiac Grand Am Wheel cylinder??

1996 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I am trying to relace a bad wheel cylinder on a 96 pontiac grand am and it will NOT come out from between the hud and the backing plate!! I have tried everything by removing all the shoe hardware and shoes. Also i removed 4 bolts holding the hub and plate to the car and the two will not seperate. There is no amount of scraping or prying (without severly deforing the backing plate) that will help. what do u sugjest? thanks ! Joe

Hi swtactn84. Welcome to the forum. The problem is your hammer isn't big enough! Now that you have the four torx bolts removed, it's just a matter of explaining to the hub assembly that you mean business. The wheel flange is thick enough to take the hammer blows to separate it from the axle. Rotate the bearing while you're banging on the flange so the stresses don't form dimples in the internal bearing races. That has never happened to me, but why risk it?

Holler back BEFORE you start bleeding the new wheel cylinder unless you just let it gravity bleed.
