Smells problem

i was travelling down the interstate the other day when a loud noise came from under my hood, i looked back and there were pieces and parts and smoke coming out behind me, and every dummy light in the car was on, i pulled over and opend the hood to discover the bolwn belt, i was only 2 miles from town so i drove it back. on the way it started to blow smoke through the vents into the car, like the heatercore is bad? i bought a new belt but couldnt get the tensioner to budge. is ther anything that that broken belt could have damaged i.e. radiator hoses, i didn't see any thing leaking and the car didn't over heat, why would smoke blow in through the vents?
