coolant leak?

its either that or a cracked block... very hard job to replace the head on that vehicle. take bout 5-7hours dependent on mechanic. head gasket probably 60 bucks at the dealership.

my car leaked all the coolant out and i was told that a timeing chain could be in the wayy of the pump or hose because i waas told that one of them are the cause for the leak is this ture?

no the only thing that would possibly be in the way of your water pump would be your alternator here is a picture

I just witnessed anti freeze mixing with my engine oil. I thought it was a blown head gasket, but my friend said is that I have a blown intake manifold gasket which is more common with 3.1 grand am, the car runs fine and there are no leaks from the water pump. But when I put anti freeze it goes straight to the engine. So what you 2 pros think is it my head gasket or my intake manifold gasket?

it could be either to tell you the truth, the best way to find out weather it is a headgasket, warped/cracked head is to perform a compression test.

to test the intake manifold gasket look for visible leaks or do a vaccum test. maybe start it up and spray aroudn it with carb cleaner, if idle changes you have found your problem.

I found a small rubber tube comming out the firewall where the heater hoses connect. It comes out at a 90 degree pointing down. All of a sudden the engine coolant come pouring out of it. Car over heats. How do I stop this.

Suspect a faulty heater core. You can bypass the heater core by connecting the two heater hoses together with an extra piece of rubber hosing. This is a temporary fix and disables the heating of the vehicle. To permanently fix, you will need to replace the heater core.

My brother in law gave me his old car since he bought a new one. The car runs and all but I do have some problems. When the car is running, not driving, the whole engine shakes. He told me it was a loose spark plug but I tightened them all up and still have the problem. My neighbor said it might be the fuel injector or something and he took off a tube off the fuel bar and held his finger over it and the engine shook a little more than cut off. Once back on it ran but shook still. I'm not sure what else it is and don't have money to put it in the shop. Also I have a small coolant leak but can't seem to find the place it's leaking. Any places to check? And the last is the brake light is on. The manuel said the parking break may be stuck but it's not and the brakes seem to be fine but idk I need some help

This could be caused from a few things. First, before you spend to much money replacing parts I would find out for sure where your coolant leak is. I am assuming that this is a 2.3 or a 2.4 4cylinder? If there are no visable coolant leaks on the outside of the engine or cooling system then it is possible that it has a failed head gasket and it is leaking coolant inside the cylinder of the engine causing a cylinder to misfire , thus your engine shaking? Is there anitfreeze or water in the oil? The only way to figure this out for sure is to have someone do a pressure test on the coolant system and/or a leakdown test on the engine.

If you find an external leak then obviously this is not your problem but it should still be fixed, and I would say that your miss would most likely be a bad coil cover, ignition coil, bad fuel injector, or possibly a vacume leak.

there are puddles of water(coolant) in the driver and passenger sides of the car, and when I try to accelerate, the car sputters. The coolant is leaking below the engine and leaking into the car. Please help.

The heater core is located in this area and it is leaking.
You can get it replaced or by pass it. If you live in cold climate it won’t be a good idea to do this.

what is the small plastic tube under the pass. side in the firewall,sould it have a hose connected to it, and why would it be leaking antifreeze when the car is stopped or shut off?

Have cooling system pressure tested. Could be the radiator, seal, gasket, etc.

Pontiac, Grand Am, 1991, 154,000 mi. My GA started gushing coolant today, and I had a friend look at it to see where it was coming from. Definitely not from the radiator. He pulled of an L-shaped rubber tube that he said was leaking the coolant. It was attached on one end to the engine (?), and was unattached on the other end. Do you have any clue what it could possibly be and how it can be fixed?

well you should not have any coolant lines disconnected.... the only one should be the vent for the overflow tank..... check over the engine and look for any thing that looks odd, run to the store and get another one and replace it....good luck :)
