1. After the car is started and ran for about 5 min the engine spits and sputters and the car jerks severely and loses power. Giving more gas increases the jerking. Sometimes it will go away very quickly and sometimes it may last for 5 min.

2. Fuel gage on car would not go lower than 1/4. Now the indicator jumps around.

Changed spark plugs, checked compression, replaced throttle position sensor and fuel filter.

Is this Quad 4? If so they had problems with the coil housings causing cross-firing and thus engine misfires. The fuel gauge is probably not related, to ensure good fuel pressure a manual gauge must be installed to verify

Thanks. Is there anyway to check the coil housing other than replacing it? This has 2 coil packs that mount to the underside of a metal plate which sits on top of the spark plugs.

Most shops can measure coil output, but you can hook up a inductive timing light and pull the trigger, do this for each wire. You would be looking for pauses in firing pattern from one coil to another.
