Computer problem
1994 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Manual

Currently we have replaced plugs, fuel filter and pump. Had tested coils and ignition module. We can verify there is spark. New spark plugs smell of gas. However won't start. purchased computer diagnostic handheld code unit that is supposed to flash/beep codes. However we now get no codes or beeps when put on for diagnosis. Everything comes on so there is no complete comp malfunction but are wondering if partial failure could be problem. How can we test computer without taking car to dealer? Is there a timing problem instead of computer problem? Is car timed by ignition module? Is there a sensor that could be bad for timing?

Is check engine light on? If so you can short terminals A and B of diagnostic connector, turn ign. to ON and SES light will flash codes. Flash..pause.. flash, flash is code 12 for example.

Code 12 will flash 3 times, then error codes 3 times, when all error codes are displayed ECM will again flash code 12.

You can have ignition module tested at most autoparts stores for free.

If you get error codes, post them and I will look them up.
