2006 Pontiac G6 6 cyl Automatic 48000 miles

I have a 2006 G6. I bought it used. Carfax said it was stolen & in an accident. My problem is the key does not release. It's not the steering wheel lock. It seems to be electrical with the parking mechanism. I have to turn key put it in drive, reverse, start the car put it into drive over & over again. Sometimes it will not release at all. It happens every time I take the key out. On average takes 5-10 min. to let key go. I can hear it when it does. Also sometimes when I start car & put it into drive it acts like the car is not on. It will not let me take it out of park. I have little money, so I wanted to know the cheapest place to start. Maybe it could be a $20.00 part. I have one more ? for you… while I was checking out this problem on web I came across G6 with auto start but will not work after an accident. How can I find out if my G6 has auto start & how could I fix it?
