I have a pontiac Firebird Trans Am (1984) 5.0 Vin starting with G. The car started losing charge, my husband replaced the battery, that didn't work, he replaced the alternator, that worked for a little while. But it is back to the same old again. You can get it started (sometimes) without jumping it... it will run for maybe 10 minutes and then it goes dead. Like I said he has replaced the battery, alternator and also the distributor. He has been looking for a short but unable to find one, we are really stumped... does anyone have any ideas? Please help, spring is coming and I want my hot rod!
Thanks, the Rhudas

A new battery is a good bet. A new alternator is also. The alternator has an internal voltage regulator, so the new one should be good. I would look at cables at the battery, starter, alternator, and engine ground cables. It's the cheapest and easiest place to start.

He already checked all of that and replaced it. What's the next bet?

what kind of shape is the belt in?, is it tight, is there a amp gauge on the dash to see if it is charging?
