Hello i have a 1990 pontiac firebird with a v6 currently 184,245 on it. I was running the car when all of a sudden my friend notices that they alt cable looked burned so what we did we got a fresh cable and spliced then covered it with duck tape. let the car sit for abour 12 hrs then came back and cranked it back up and this time the duck tape started melting, as if the voltage regulator was giving to much. My questions is, is it the VR and were is it so i can replace it if that it is ? and i have heard their are some firebirds that come internal with the alt, so then i would just have to replace the ALT ?
