so i have a 88 trans am Gta, and the car died on me, on a really cold night. All it would do is crank over, and the engine is a 350tpi, so when you turn the key to the accessory on position before starting the car you would hear the fuel pump turn on and shoot fuel to the motor, i dont hear the pump turning on, so i got some starting fluid and shot it into the throttle body, and the car starts for a second. So i figured the fuel pump was bad. I replaced the fuel pump,it was a pain but i did the job right, still nothing, so i than replaced the fuel pump relay, and checked all the related fuel pump fuses, which were not blown. So i heard about this web site and asked about my fuel pump blues, and you guys reccomended to check the oil pressure switch. I replaced the oil pressure switch and still am not getting any response from the fuel pump. I am good with cars, not the best, but I am just really stumped and puzzled right now and need the assistance of a jedi mechaninc, Please any ideas or suggestions, because i am lost, and i really want to drive my cool Trans am

I want to through this out to you guys for pondering. While I didn't have a trans am I did have a GM product that did what your describing. I thought it was the fuel pump but after taking it to the shop, to have the catalytic converter was shot. Had it replaced and now no problems. It's just a thought....
