Engine Mechanical problem
1988 Pontiac Firebird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1988 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM V8 5.0 L. We originally bought it and was told that it only needed a timing chain that needed to be replaced; we replaced the timing chain, drove it around the block fine and right when we got back it died. We then took it to a repair shop for a diagnostic test, they said it was the Idle Air Control valve; we have them replace it, and then we drove it home from there (about 5 miles). When we went to start it again, we put it in park and it will start it, and it will die when shifted into drive. When shifted into drive, sometimes it will die right away or sometimes you can drive 10 feet. When shifted into reverse it will drive a little bit sometimes, but not all the time; and you have to give it extra gas as well.

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure? Have you checked for a clogged catalytic converter?
