I recintly replaced the whole councle and radio housing and when putting back newer parts, I'm hookin the lighter up and it keeps popping the fuse over and over. I have the car running while doing this as I read before and even tryed numerous lighting housing's. I've never done electrical work before but am reading up on it and was thinking of clipping the wire's at the lighter connector tips to the fuse box and securing the wiring myself because there's no way I'm confident in tearing up the whole roll, because I assume the wire is hitting something so I was told. And I'm not even sure if the wire's connected directly to the fuse box. That being said, thank you for your time, and sorry about the penmanship.

Hello, does it pop the fuse with the heating element removed. I've seen several GM models where a faulty heating element/cig liter would blow the acc fuse. I threw the liter in the glove-box, I could still use the liter socket as an auxiliary power supply.

The fuse pops without the heating element in. It pops when im hooking the wire directly on the unit,immediatly. And the reason this is so important is , as a none smoker, I need it for my sattilite radio, and I've been going nutts havin to listen to reg radio

Hello, how many wires go to the lighter socket? Your not hooking B+ on the ground circuit?

My wiring info on your year and model is slim. Orange wire is B+, black wire is ground. There's no continuity without the heating element.

Theres just the orange+ @ black- ,im hookin it up right, yet it still blows the fuse. Someone said the black may be hitin somethin covered and groundin out,what u think?

That may be a two part socket, if the socket is good, I don't know why it is blowing the fuse?

What do you think about the ground hittin something and grounden out and popin? I was thinking clipping the wires at both ends and rewiring it?

Unless there is something wrong with the socket, there should not be any continuity between b+ and ground without the heating element. That's the way I see it.
