Engine Mechanical problem
1984 Pontiac Firebird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 184K miles

i disconnected the timing chain and rotated only the crank (lost count maybe 2 or 3 times). now the two dots on the cam and crank meet at 6 & 12 o'clock, respectively. the number 6 piston seems to near the top but not sure (nor do i think it is TDC). the striker on the rotor is just past the number three (following the firing order). what do i move to get the striker on the number six? will i cause any damage to the push rods (or anything else) if i connect the battery to turn the engine? what is the best way to turn the crank? now i have all the spark plugs out.

With crank at 12 and cam at 6 then it times off cyl 6 so rotor needs to be pointing at wire for cyl 6. Remove dist and reset turn engine by hand NO STARTER put crank bolt in and turn with that
