I am looking to buy this 1988 Fiero GT and I would to know two things:

1. What should the idle speed be??

I know that the idle speed is set at the factory an dsealed, but this fiero idles at abouit 1,000 rpm when warm (as seen on the dash Tac). It seems High for a 6-cylinder engine.

2. Should the Warning lights on the dashboard come-ON when you turn the ignition key on?

The only light that i saw while test driving it was the "AJAR" light when the door was open.

NOTE: On fuel injected models, engine idle speed varies. This fluctuation is considered normal, and should not be adjusted unless throttle body components have been replaced.

HOT (SLOW) IDLE RPM
IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE
MFI, SFI & TBI
1.On 2.8L (except VIN 9), 3.0L and 3.8L engines, use an awl to pierce minimum idle stop screw cover. Apply leverage to remove cover. On all engines, ground ALDL diagnostic test lead. 2.Turn ignition on, but do not start engine. Wait 30 seconds. Disconnect Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) harness connector. Remove ALDL diagnostic test lead ground and start engine. Place auto. trans. (if equipped) in "D". 3.Adjust minimum idle stop set screw to specification. See MINIMUM EFI IDLE SPEED chart. After adjustment, turn ignition off and reconnect IACV connector. Clear any trouble codes. Manual trans 600-700 Auto 400-450 in drive Vin S or W
500-600 in D. All othe vin's are not adjustable.

Idle should be 850 rpm. If above, then the IAC is bad or the TB should be cleaned. They get dirty and sooty because of EGR flow.

Another posibility is a vacuum line leaking. There is an array of vacuum lines that go under the upper intake. These get brittle with age and can develop small cracks.

The warning lights should come on. You can remove the IP panel cover and replace the bulbs. If they do not come on, then the mylar circuit board may have a open circuit, or a bad fuse.

You want to make SURE the SES light is working.
