What is the proper procedure for setting the ignition timing at the 10 degrees shown on the engine compartment decal. I've read something about putting a jumper wire on some terminals in the driver console area inside the car cabin. I also cannot read any numbers on the crank pulley, I just see some notches on it to the left of the magnetic timing tube. Could you send a digram showing the numbers, or else tell me how many degrees apart the notches are?

Thanks--------Dave

Get a piece of chalk or white paint, mark the "O" degree notch and the "10" degree notch. Remove wheel and plastic liner for a better view.

Remove panel that houses cigarette lighter (they are torx screws). Behind panel is ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link), use a wire or paper clip (bent to a "U" shape), and connect terminals A and B. They are the only two pins side by side on the connector.

Start engine, SES light will flash every second, ECM is in "field service" mode (all computer advance is removed).

Connect timing light and point to marks, timing is 10 degrees BTDC.

If timing is off, then loosen dist. hold down bolt (kinda hard to get to) and rotate counterclockwise to advance or clockwise to retard timing, until you get to the 10 degree mark. Shut off engine, remove jumper.
