I have an 86 Fiero with a 2.5l 4cylinder. I have put 3 fuel pumps in it in the last 2 weeks. They run fine for about 30 minutes and then my car starts to spit, sputter and shake then die. When I go to restart it it will not start. I pull the fuel pressure line off before the filter and try to crank it but barely any fuel comes out. Im sure it is possible that I have gotten several bad fuel pumps off of the shelf but it seems unlikely.
Is there anything else that could cause the pump to quit working after a short period of time? The pump still turns on when the key is placed in the ignition so I know it is getting power. I just put a new one in yesterday and same thing. It started right up and then I went to drive it and it had no power, surged, sputtered and died. It's getting pretty old taking the tank out, the nice thing is all of the hoses have been replaced and the hardare is not rusted tight anymore. Any suggestions?
