fuel guage fluxating

the fuel gauge is flucuatiing exteremly, it goes from half a tank all the way down to completely empty and back up again..it only starts fluxating near half a tank and when i acclerate or turn a corner it goes up and down, as if when I start the car its all the way empty fuel light is on, i start to drive and it goes back up.. this is too much of a fluxation to be normal, I started using higher grade gas and we just cant figure it out, any help would be much appericated![/quote:7c98b1e3e4]



Sometimes you get a sending unit that is particularly sensitive and will fluctuate as the fuel sloshes around in the tank.

Does it have an anti slosh module? How about a fuel level sensor. I would start with checking the ground circuit on the unit.

Yes it has both, this just recently started... what do you mean ground wire? Could it be a unit going bad? or something in the dash?

I would check the fuel level sensor first-this one can be a bear from the tank to the dash

yea so I heard... How do you go about checking this??? I was told if its a bad sensor you must pull the whole tank, and replace, because the fuel pump tank and sensor are all in one.. so I know its pretty bad from the wire to the guage, but how should I go about checking it?

When I was @ about.com I've seen this before-supposely the level sensor gets corroded. You just have to get in there and pull Miami CSI on it. For me I've never been confronted by this ghost and don't wish for it.

Let me find out more from my friends @ iANT, and get back with you.

Check the fuel level sensor contacts/clean it-don't work-fix by replacement. also check the black ring that's the one that goes up and down that increases and decreases resistances being send back to the gauge

BTW is it throwing a code/s

il try that, no codes, no service light.... soo, the sensor is the nod sticking out of the side of the tank undernath the car??? wouldnt you have to drian the tank to pull and clean sensor or you would get gas everywhere?

You have to drain/drop/pull it/inspect/clean test
