My breaks are sometimes hard to push and makes a grinding sound. The traction off and anti-lock break light comes on. What could be the problem with my car?

have you checked your brake pads lately, sounds to me like they might be wore out and have to be replaced

It could also be the vacuum hose to the brake booster is off of the manifold or cut, burned, frayed. The grinding noise could be any number of things, from really dirty pads to bad rotors.
