last year the compressor went and we installed a bypass kit consisting of a bracket and pully. the heat worked fine no problems. last week the starter was replaced and the mechanic disconected the battery for the first time since the compressor repair. on the first start up the temp led on the atc flashes and the air is hot at first but quickly becomes cold. we ran the codes and it comes up compressor.apparently the unit is looking for the compressor and cant find it. iis threr a way to fool the unit so that i can at least get heat out of the unit

I'd check the temp control actuator or the hvac control assembly.
