I was driving and my car stopped going into gear. I then noticed a burning transmission fluid smell, so I stopped the car and transmission fluid was flowing out mostly around the transmission fluid pan, but I saw fluid dripping down from the driveshaft. The transimission was rebuilt a 2 years ago and developed the leak a couple of months ago and i have been keeping the fluid replenished. But I had a mechanic look at it and he told me I just needed a new gasket for the transmission pan because whoever rebuilt the transmission did not tightened the bolts on the pan enough. Did I wait too long or can a new gasket fix the problem?

do not even start the engine before replacing pan gasket and refilling with trans fluid but i think you will be ok.
