OK, I'm about to replace the thermostat because I figure that may be the problem, but am not sure that will do it. My car is having a very specific problem. Every once in a while the temperature light will go on, and when I pull over and open the hood I can hear boiling in the engine and the coolant is being pushed out through the overflow bottle by bubbles escaping through the tube from the radiator. I f I turn the heater on full blast, this makes the coolant immediately begin draining back into the radiator. While I could just go around with the heater on all the time, I'd rather just fix it. ;) Does this ring a bell as a problem with something other than the thermostat? Thank you very much for any help.
