2000 Plymouth Voyager Cigar lighter power

The front cigar lighter in this vehicle is only active with the ignition on, however, there is a sentence in the owner's manual that says by making a request to your "local dealer," an adjustment can be made to make the power outlet hot all the time.
My dealer wants $60 an hour to even look under the hood.
Is this an "adjustment" I can do myself by placing a fuse somewhere or replacing a relay?

60 bucks an hour??? That's a deal. Most shops have to charge $85.00 - 100.00 to pay all the bills.

The power outlets and lighter sockets are powered through a relay to reduce the stress on the ignition switch contacts. The relay can not be rewired to stay on all the time because it will eventually drain the battery. There is an easier way though to bypass it.

Remove the lighter / accessory relay from the Power Distribution Center under the hood and install a jumper wire between terminals 30 and 87 in the socket. When you look at the teminals on the bottom of the rely, disregard the two parallel terminals on the sides, and the center terminal if there is one. The two remaining terminals form the letter "T". Those are the two contact terminals. Insert a jumper wire into the two corresponding terminals in the socket where the relay came from. The power outlets will be live all the time. Do not leave games and cell phone chargers powered on for long periods or the battery will be run down.
