While driving home a few weeks ago my van died. I was accelerating from a stop when it quit. It has good power and rolls over without a problem. I pulled the coil wire to check for spark, none. I took the coil to the local parts store and it tested fine. Before it quit there was a code for the EGR valve (had a rough idle). Now I can not get any codes with the OBDII and the check engine light is off (comes on with the key then goes off). I have gotten multiple votes on the computer being bad but would like another opinion.

In Power Distribution center check # 17 fuse If good see if Auto Shutdown Relay clicks when cranking. if not replace also does fuel pump run?

All fuses check ok, relay clicks, fuel pump runs to pressure and shuts off.

Pull dist cap crank does rotor turn? if yes then put test light on coil + 12v? if yes put light on coil -- crank does it flash?

Thanks for the direction! Distributor is NOT turning. I assume this is bringing me closer to a resolution. Looking forward to more great advice.

O.K. timing belt broke good news is the engine is non-interference so no bent valves. While your there new water pump good idea.

THANKS! I found the broken timing belt shortly after you raised the question of the rotor turning. I am a dad in a family of six and your advice led me to a resolution that will get us back on track soon, can't thank you enough. I will definitely make a donation! Once I pay for all the replacement parts :).

Thanks so much for the well wishes! I am going to/did do it myself (finished last night). Actually a bit of a funny story. Got it all back together and it wouldn't start, decided to take a fresh approach in the morning. A few hours later I decide that I am going to do a "once over" to make sure I didn't miss anything, sure enough the coil was unplugged! You can imagine my excitement when that engine fired up, all of the kids came running out to the garage as if Christmas had came early. :)
