My alternator belt keeps braking on my plymouth , altiva what could cause this?

I would check for proper alignment, proper tensioner function, and that all accessory pulleys spin freely .
Any whine or squealing noise?

only when it brakes! No notice until then. It has broken 3 times in the past 2 months!

If it only makes noise right when it breaks, I would say that a pulley is going bad. I would guess that it locks up while the engine is driving and this ruins the belt. Take the belt off and check the pulleys by spinning them by hand. If you feel a problem you will kinow it.
