Having a problem with coolant leaking. New rad and hoses not leaking, thermostat gasket new and ok. Drips seem to be coming from one side, around mid way back on engine.

1st day I used car after winter was fine. Next day had a small puddle after work, and at home put in 2 liters of water.

Went to my ball game. No puddle when I returned to the car. When I parked at home, had a bit of leaking, about half a liter.

Any ideas?

what kind of engine do you have in the old Mopar??

Has a 318.

My son wanted me to put a 440, but speeding tickets start at $178 so didn't.

Sounds like a classic freeze plug bad on the rear of the head. You can replace it with a rubber universal type that tightens with a wrench instead of fighting it in such a small area.

Tkae a mirror and check it out.

i second the freeze plug but you said after winter. did the motor have the proper amount of antifreeze. i had a 318 that froze and the plugs did not pop out. instead the block cracked just above one of the plugs. if you have a set of ramps, pull it up onto them and start the engine and let it get hot. then turn it off. slide under the front of the car after about 15 and you should find where the leak is.

losone is the pro with the most experence and as bad as i hate to, i might have to ask him about a problem i have with my van.....happy motoring....vandragon

On the previous advice, I took it down to my mechanic - confirmed a plug on each side is shot.

Figures the easiest way to fix is take the motor out and replace, rather than messing with pulling the headers off.
