1989 Plymouth Horizon Squealing

My 1989 Plymouth Horizon squeals when I start it up especially when cold. My belys have been checked. When I get going at higher speeds it stops, then starts when I slow down. It is loud and we don't know what it is. I sometimes have to give it gas before starting it when cold and usually don't do this as I have a fuel injection system. can you help?

Hi:
Everything you described sounds like the belts are loose or need replaced. When the car is first started, a heavy load is placed on the alt which can cause a squeal. When you accelerate, the engine and pullies speed quickly, and if the belts are loose or contaminated with oil, coolant, or worn, the belt slips causing a squealing. However, once the engine RPM's level out on the highway, the belts catch up with the engine/pulleys and the squeal eventually stops.

Based on what you said, I recommend a second opinion.
