trans stuck in 2nd gear

i have a 99 ply-breeze,my wife pulled out on a main road gave it gas and all of the suddent the car jerked real hard and they lost the speedometer and the trans went into limp mode,stuck in 2nd gear,then engine lite came on. what do you think happened, and how can i fix it.it has 150,000 miles on it,its a 2.4 automatic with overdrive.

have check engine on, get the codes
the car trying to tell you whats wrong all you have to do is read the codes .
turn key on & off 3 times leave it on after the 3rd time.
p code will appear in the odometer area
