while removing the map sensor to replace it with a new one, the piece with the rubber on it broke and fell inside the hole into the engine. will this do any damage? i installed the new one anyway, but i was unable to remove the broken piece from the old one, it is still inside the hole. i was able to drive home with no problems and smelled some rubber burning through the A/C vents.

More than likely this will not do any damage as it feeds into the intake and will not make its way to the combustion chamber.

However, I just want to make sure that the hole this feel into is the one shown in the replacement process. If this is the case then I would not worry about it.

Let us know what question you have. Thanks

Hello, I'm Danny.

Here is a tutorial on how to replace a mass air flow sensor which is similar to a MAP sensor:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-a-mass-air-flow-sensor-maf

The only thing you could try to do is remove the upper intake manifold to try and get the broken piece out by hand or try to blow it out with compressed air. Here is a tutorial showing intake gasket replacement for an intake manifold:

I've attached picture steps below for map sensor replacement and upper intake manifold removal and replacement for your vehicle. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
