anti-theft system disarm

because you have replaced the ignition lock your car needs to be reprogrammed for the security system to work. any garage with a scanner can do it. there is no relay in your system unless your were sold a RAP relay which is on the lh side fuse panel. or it was the remote control doorlock receiver which is in the upper center of dash.

not true, there is an Anti-theft relay, it is a 2001 Impala 3.4, should have included that, i purchased the relay, it is different and comes with housing over the relay, so it is not in the normal places for relays, it is not in the fuse panel on the driver side, nor in the fuse panel on the passenger side, nor is it in the under the hood fuse / relay compartments, which makes sense because it is a theft deterrent device and should be difficult to access anyway,

but there is definitely an an anti-theft relay, called some chevy dealers around here, central MA and they are not helpful, called chevy / GM direct, the lady i talked to there was helpful and is going to have a District Manager talk to me, she sounded pretty concerned that the chevy dealers wouldn't help me out, so maybe she will reprimand them or the district manager will reprimand them, maybe the dealers concerns are safety related tho

outside of the airbag there is not a real safety issue, i have the battery terminal disconnected and took out the maxi fuse for the air pump, stopped a little while ago, didn't want the air bag going off while i worked on the dash/instrument console, is there anything else that should be done to prevent the air bags from going off accidentally ??

I have all the instrument panels out, ie everything is out,, just left with the big black plastic molding things that stretches across the dash and so i am going to take that out, right now i cant figure out how to get the top dash cover off, i took out the screws that hold that dash cover down in the front but something is holding it on in the back on both the left side and the right side too, , ie in the back near the windshield, any clues u can give me on that would be appreciated too???, the black molding thing has bolts maybe about 6-8 of them and it is loose on the bottom, ie not attached at the bottom of the molding,

take the screws out of the defrostervents to get the top off. I'm glad you now so much about your system because there is no relay powergoes form fuse to body module which ignition lock is connected to that there is no relay listed in any of our diagrams from GM as well as relay locations for that. Good luck on your quest but there isn't a relay .

was just thinking about safety and do it your selfers, ie some of the DIY people are young and NOT aware of how important safety is, could u guys give the DIY crowd a dig dose of caution whenever someone is trying to do something that involves safety, aaaargh i watch too much news sometime and always seem to hear about DIY people that are NOT safety conscious so fyi

dude i have the book and the electrical schematics and there definetly is a theft deterrent relay

besides the auto part store i got it from had it listed under the Impala 2001 parts and it is called an anti-theft deterrent relay, maybe call advanced auto parts and ask them,

like I've said our schematics nor relay locations show that particular relay the on I looked up under rock auto listed it but it's not there in the schematics. i'have checked form 2000-2003 and none of them show it.

the book with the electrical schematic that shows the anti-theft relay is the Haynes book for impala, etc, maybe u r right tho, i don't know how accurate the Haynes book is
