How can i diagnose clucth control cable stiffness without disassembling it?

Hi there,

uncouple both end and pull the inner cable in & out a few times it should be quite free, if the cable is over 5 years old i would be replacing it regardless, also with the top of the cable undone, feel for and play or tightness in the pedal pivot as well.
