Engine Mechanical problem

hi.. i ve been scratchig my head over a problem that has been going on since i got this car second hand a month ago. the idle engine speed was very high and a mechanic loweered it. after that the engine would constantly stall when i change gear in a hill - without any form of warning or sign of engine trouble. the engine runs fine otherwise. the problem persists when the lights are switched on.
The same mechanic carburettor. Another mechanic also cleaned the spark plugs because there was carbon on them.
Why does the car keep stalling everytime i change gear in a hill?
