Passenger side no heat

Welcome to 2CarPros. Item number 5 is the passenger side temperature blend door actuator. If you look up under the dash on the passenger side and then between the blower motor and the center dash area you will see the actuator (image 2). If it is moving then it is possible the door inside is not moving.

Awesome, i'll check it out. the one I did look at and saw working is number 3 on the right. I understand these are well known issues with these cars, but Ford fails to recall them. Thanks very much. I'll let you know my findings whenever I get back to it.

Number 3 is the air inlet door. Selects outside air or recirculate. There would likely never be a recall because it isn't considered a life safety issue. That is what triggers most recalls. Now if enough people got together and went after them it could be something they would issue a TSB on and possibly a goodwill repair, but I wouldn't hold my breath, most auto makers will fight "free" repairs tooth and nail, then wonder why they lose sales and repeat buyers.

Gonna try and get to this on Friday. The 2 pictures help a lot, thanks. Do you know which is easier: pull the radio or go in through the glove box area to access Number 5?

Shouldn't need to do either. There is just a panel under the dash on the passenger side, it doesn't block access if I remember correctly. The area below the actuator should be open.

Steve, you are 1000% correct! #5 in your first picture is the culprit. I pulled the blend door actuator and manually moved the blend door lever. My 2015 Mustang GT 5.0 convertible is like a hot summer day inside! As far as getting the replacement, my local Ford dealer wanted me to order one for around $48.00 plus tax and wait for it to come in. No thanks! Rockauto.com has what I needed -- in the mail for about $20.00 total. Removal: Using a T15 torx, the front screw is easy to remove. Other screw a little harder to get to. A "stubby" T15 (if you can still find one) is perfect for this hard-to-reach back screw, but some coaxing with a regular torx driver works going about 1/10 of a turn at a time. Many thanks again.

Took apart the broken Blend Door Actuator. Contact points are supposed to be flat against the green circuit board. You can see with the gear pulled, where the contact is mangled.

You are most welcome. That car at least has them in places you can access, most you end up tearing out the dash to get to. For those tight spots I have a wrench I got at a Lowes, it's similar to this one from craftsman. You can add an extension in there and use it as a short driver as well.

Okay, here we go again. Heat was working perfectly until a couple days ago. Same problem: no heat on right three vents, heat on two driver's side vents. Figured connector was loose or something wasn't quite lined up and slipped off, like it was off by a gear or two, etc. So, pulled the new actuator, confirmed it's both connected tightly and it works. Put it back in. Still not opening the heat door on that side.

Does the heat door lever need to be in a certain position related to the actuator unit when reinstalled? Wondering if I'm reinstalling it in the middle of the travel path, which, when activated, forces the gears or the door lever to go past its intended stop point, causing it to pop off altogether and no longer open and close (?). I welcome all comments!

That one is self aligning. Bolt on and it resets on power up. If it seems to work OK but not when installed I would pull it off and see if moving the door manually works. It's possible the door itself is bad.

Door works and lever moves fine. New actuator works fine. Both don't work fine together. ha. Going out to pull it off again now and lie upside down under my dash and ponder more. Will keep you posted!

Is the new part an OEM or aftermarket? Have seen a lot of "questionable" parts in the past few years. It might be that the actuator works but doesn't move with enough force. Testing it should show if that's the case.
