What exactly is the purpose of this part, what is the most common cause, can I continue to drive the vehicle, any adverse effects if I do so? Seems to be running fine but the guy at the Mazda dealership I called didn't even know what it was, had to go ask someone else and then is spouting off dire circumstances.

This is for the intake runners

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors input voltages from Variable Tumble Control System (VTCS) solenoid valve. If voltage at is low when the VTCS solenoid valve OFF,PCM determines that VTCS solenoid valve has malfunction.

Four cylinder front wheel drive automatic 75,000 miles.

Does anyone know what this code means? I got it after going to Autozone and having scanned since I have the check engine light on solid for about three weeks, and off and on for about a month. I have changed spark plugs (10,000 miles on the plugs), cleaned the throttle body, regularly use 89 octane gas (Chevron), fairly new air filter (less than a year old=10,000 miles) Does anyone know how to fix it? Is it a time bomb?

Thanks,

Jose.

This code means something is wrong with the connection between your VTCS solenoid and your PCM. VTCS is used to improve emissions at low rpm's. It basically restricts intake air so that the intake air speed increases and thus creates a greater mixing effect and better combustion.

The P1569 code means that either there is a problem with the wiring between the VTCS solenoid valve and the PCM, or that the VTCS or PCM is bad. Have a mechanic check the wiring between the two components for a short or an open circuit, and then check the solenoid and the PCM if the wiring looks good.

I do not think that driving with this problem would be an issue you might see lower gas mileage, but I do not know how much of an effect the VTCS solenoid has on increasing combustion at low rpms. Worst case scenario, you might get some unburned fuel passing through your engine, which might damage your exhaust system in the long run.

Car passes emission test, but recurring P1569 problem prevents obtaining SMOG certification. Engine runs fine otherwise.
The solenoid vale operates if I jumper it, and all the vacuum hoses are good. How do I trouble shoot the system?

Sounds like its a issue with circuit/wires connections or ecm.I need to know which engine you have to get you the correct trouble? Also do you have a multimeter to do some testing?

Hi,

Does anyone know where is the VTCS & PCM located in the engine bay and what do they stand for? I want to see if I can replace, or troubleshoot without taking it to a shop since it seems pretty straight forward. I got the P1569 code from Autozone.

Thanks,

Jose.

PCM= Powertrain Control Module, or the main computer
VTCS=Variable Tumble control system P1569=low voltage. The best way to check it is to use a vacuum tester and see if it holds vacuum for 5 seconds, if not replace it, it's on the intake manifold.

it's the ground wire on back of engine missing out of harness the wiring in the harness y/l and br/v to connector and black wiring ground between them. I attached a new wire to the ground and clear code all good.

Hello FMOSES22, im dealing with the same issue on my 01 Protege ES, trying to fix it but i do not understand y/l and br/v meaning, can you please explain to me how did you fix it? But a little bit more detail? Mechanical DIY newbie here, thank you!

Sure, I can help. I am not sure what y/I means but the br/v means brown/violet wire. What kind of problem are you having?

Hey Ken! Thank you for your answer, my car (01 protege ES 2.0) is giving me same P1569 “vtcs solenoid valve circuit low input” and even when does not affect the car drivability the CEL in the dash makes me stare at it”.

Okay, this is because the flow valve system inside the intake manifold is not working. I would disconnect the solenoid and work the valve by hand to see if it is moving fully, you might need to remove the intake and clean it or see why the VTCS valve is not moving. Also, check the vacuum lines going the solenoid as well. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes
