Long story short, this car sat for a long time while I was away. When I came back the battery was dead. Someone was supposed to keep the engine turned over at least once a week and let it run. Well that never happened. When I came back the car would not run and the fuel has sat for almost a year.I changed the battery, drained the fuel, cleaned the fuel pump and filter, replaced the gasket on the fuel pump. I was able to limp her home and the engine was running bad. Little to no power and then surging RPMs. I looked on the forums and did some more work. I took apart the air filter housing, replaced the air filter, replaced all the spark plugs, pulled the MAF and cleaned it with MAF cleaner, Pulled the throttle body and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner.I have done the throttle body relearn, but have no clue if it works. When I let the car reach the correct running temp the idle will surge from about 1500 to 1800-2000rpm. It will then drop back down and repeat this forever. If the car is placed in drive the rpms will drop down to the correct readings and the car seems fine. I cant really take her out on the road is the registration / insp has expired and the car cant be inspected until the problem is corrected and the mil is out.I did notice that if I am revving the engine and let it off the rpm will jump around before coming back down. On the small test drives around the streets around the house. I noticed the rpms can be erratic if I gun the engine and let off right away the tachometer will jump around too.The MIL light came back on and it read P1273. I looked this up and see that it is a code related to o2 sensors and other things.I'm looking for some help. I have gone to a Nissan dealer before and they tried to screw me over so bad for simple repairs and I don't trust a dealer anymore. They only want money and "throw parts and the problem" I prefer to troubleshoot the problem and get the "right" part. could someone please direct me in the right direction. I don't have a ton of money to dump into this car to chase this problem. The car is a 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8dohc approx. 90K Thanks for any help that you can provide.

this really needs to be tested with a pro style scanner and driven at 50 mph in 3rd range then slowed to 30 mph witout brakng 3-5 times. then you need to check fuel pressure with a gauge and make sure sensor is tightened to 30-44 ft lbs. and ground screws for ecm need to be checked see pic.

I had a check engine light come on. I had the code read at auto zone it was the crankshaft position sensor. I replaced the sensor and the light went out but now the car idles at 1500 rpms then goes up to 2000 rpms and back down. The idle just keeps going up and down. The only thing that stopes the idle from going up and down is when I turn the a/c on then the car idles ant 1100 rpms and does not go up and down. The check engine light is still off and the people at auto zone read the car again and their are no hidden codes. How or what can I do to get the idle to go back to 700 rpms where it was before. the car is an SENTRA SE-R SPEC V

Sorry...I wish I could help, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find the crank position sensor on my 2004 Nissan Sentra Spec V. Considering that you just replaced it, can you tell me where is it is located? And how long it took to replace? AutoZone also diagnosed my sentra as having a bad crank position sensor as well.

You will find it below the throtle body near the back of the motor close too the bell howsinng of the transmission. It's between the motor mount and the engine block. I found the best way to get to it was to go from the top of the motor and not from under the car. You can buy the part from Auto Zone this will help you have a better idea of what to look for when you start looking. The Auto Zone part is a Duralast Part number SU6364. It took me an hour of surching before I found a diagram that showed me where it was, and it was not a very good drawing at that. I hope this helps you.

Did you try starting with foot on accelerator pedal?
If the TPS is bad or out of adjustment, it can result in non starting without the aid of the accelerator pedal.

As to the TPS, try clearing the codes and see if they come back. What was the EXACT code you are getting?

P0507 is a fault with the IAACor idle control system and can be due to vacuum leakages etc.

Turning and nothing happens indicates a fault with the starting system and it can be a flat battery, ignition switch, starter motor or security system.

The solenoid has to click for the starter gears to kick out to engage. What you need to do is to apply battery voltage to the starter solenoid wire, the small one to see if it turns.

Today I was driving to work in the morning the car die when I stopped. Started right away, then, next traffic light car die again, I started the car again; I noticed the idle (rpms) was going down below 5. I press the gas pedal car stayed running.
I understand that I cannot use throttle cleaner on this car (02 Nissan Sentra Spec V) because it has some type of sensor or gasket inside the throttle body that could get damage. I don’t know if this is true? I don’t want to make things more complicated. Car runs very good does not hesitate or anything, problem is when I get to stop sight or traffic light. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I will ask my dad to give me his credit card to give a donation for your help. My dad bought the car last year for me everything was fine til today.

yes, you can clean the throttle body but great care has to be taken. You put the cleaner on a clean rag and apply it to te bore and the plate. You can try this but it sounds like you may be replacing the throttle body.

ok , the best thing to do is bring it to a parts place/autozone and have it scanned for codes, bring it back to me and I will disect it for you. I believe its running lean, and has a fuel problem, I dont think its major though, so try not to panic .have it scanned and come back with the codes

ok, first the vehicle is running "lean" that is where the rotten egg smell comes from, then the 1705, is an automatic trans axle fault. I'm thinking a torque convertor promblem, but it doesnt say. so the tranny will need to be scanned by itself, to pinpoint the problem. now back to the smell. your running lean so you need to change the oxygen sensors

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

When battery is disconnected, the engine computer needs to relearn and during this period, you might have performance and idling issues. A little driving should solve the problem but if the alternaotr is bad, it is not going to work.

Let the computer relearn by going for a drive around. It might take a while before it relearns and during this period it can act funny while idling.

Lets start with this first if problem was not there previously.

Ig the Maklfunction Indicator light is showing, get a free scan done at parts stores and let us know the EXACt trouble code.

Good day,

I recently had the engine on my 1994 Nissan Sentra GX 1600 fuel injected model, changed with a second hand engine.
I had the Nissan agents check the timing and other fuel settings for me.
The idling is very low now (500rpm) and the car keeps on stalling after you start it and dying when you stop at robots. What should the RPMs be?
When I drive up a hill it feels like the car is battling and then at 4000rpm there is a sudden boost. The funny thing is the old engine also did this.
They have indicated that the fuel pump will need replacing. Not sure if that would cause this.
My question is: What must I ask the service agents to check, when I take the car back to them, to ensure that the fuel and timing system is set up correctly and what equipment MUST they have to do this?

I think what you should do is find the EGR valve/IAA unit-andclean it out. Then check for excessive backpressure in the exhaust-to rule out the catalytic converter. Final adjust the throttle position sensor voltage by losing it up till you get the correct voltage for the closed and wide open throttle then lock it.
