Code p0442

So I have been having 2 main problems that have been bugging me and my car. First is a small evap leak (p0442) code that displays when I run a scan through my micro mechanic Bluetooth plug in and app display. I bought this car used a few months ago and it has about 105,000 miles on it. I have replaced the gas cap and cleared the code which makes the check engine light go away for a few trips until it comes back on. I have also replaced the canister purge valve, but the results are the same. Through the app I am using you can see the mpg as well and the problem doesn't seem to be affecting gas mileage as the 24 mpg average seems to be normal for this vehicle from what I have read. I would like to think this doesn't seem like a major problem but anticipate it keeping the car from passing emissions inspection so I would like some ideas what it could be before taking it in to the shop and getting hit with a huge bill.

Okay, here is what I suggest: First, the small EVAP leak could be many different things. When it indicates a small leak, it's usually a cracked EVAP hose or a seal. So, here is what needs done. With any small EVAP leak, they are nearly impossible to find by simply looking. What needs done is this. Have the EVAP system smoke tested. There is a port under the hood where a smoke machine is attached to the system and at a very low pressure, smoke is pumped into the system. If there is a leak, smoke will leak out of the system. Honestly, this is the best thing to do. It will save time and money.

Thank you for the reply! So I checked under the car and couldn't really find any source to the sound it has been making when idling or at low speed but found another detail. The sound completely goes away when I turn on the A/C. I should also mention my A/C hasn't been blowing cold air as of late and when checking the Freon the PSI seems to be at the appropriate level, this could be taken care of in another post I'm sure but wanted to mention it as a part of my rattle sound problem as well. Do me a favor, open the hood and locate the A/C compressor. See pic 1 for location.

Have a helper start the engine with the A/C off. Have the helper turn the A/C on and off a couple times to see if that is where the noise is coming from.

As far as the EVAP leak, you really need to have the system smoke tested.
